What happens the day of my evaluation and how long will it take?
Step 1 (approximately one hour):
In order to fully understand the reason for the evaluation, Dr. Bryer
will interview you and gather information regarding your history and current
functioning. With your consent, she may interview a significant other
or caregiver also.
Step 2 (two to eight hours):
Dr. Bryer will tailor the tests based on the question at hand so that
you do not undergo more testing than is necessary, but enough to provide
a comprehensive set of results. The
testing component of the evaluation entails a wide range of different
activities including answering questions, solving puzzles, drawing, and
writing. Typically, Dr. Bryer is able to complete the testing component
of an evaluation in one day. She usually begins testing in the morning
and finishes the evaluation by mid-afternoon. A lunch break and any other
rest breaks necessary are a routine part of the testing day. Dr. Bryer
makes every effort to create as relaxed and pleasant an experience as
possible.

What should I bring with me to the evaluation
and when should I arrive?
Dr. Bryer asks that you bring any medical records and/or testing results
that might be helpful in understanding your history. Please bring a list
of your current medications and dosages with you to the evaluation. Also,
if you wear corrective lenses, please be sure to bring them with you to
the appointment. She also asks that you arrive thirty minutes prior to
your scheduled appointment to fill out paperwork.
Is there anything else I should do to prepare
for the evaluation?
Please make sure that you are well rested for the evaluation and have
eaten breakfast. It is important that you are able to give your best effort
on the testing day.
How quickly will I receive test results and in
what form?
Dr. Bryer usually provides test results within approximately two weeks.
In order to ensure that all of the questions concerning your functioning
are answered, she arranges a face-to-face feedback session with you and
goes over each section of the report.
What do I do with the test results once I receive
them?
Dr. Bryer will go over the recommendations and rationale during the face-to-face
feedback session. Possible outcomes from her evaluation might include
discussing test results with school personnel to secure appropriate accommodations,
psychotherapy, psychiatric evaluation, and/or a behavioral management
program.
How
are fees handled?
Dr. Bryer is out-of-network with insurance companies. However, she does
have a BC/BS provider number to facilitate reimbursement. Unless otherwise
negotiated, payment for services is expected at the time they are rendered.
Many insurance plans cover all or part of the costs of psychological services.
If you expect to file for reimbursement from your insurance company, Dr.
Bryer will provide you with a suitable receipt to submit to your insurance
company so that they can reimburse you directly.
What kinds of forms do I need to fill out?
Dr. Bryer has prepared a number of forms that you can print and fill
out at your convenience. Simply bring them with you to your first appointment.
